According to reports, the motorcycle was attempting to pass between the truck and the Honda CR-V, which were travelling alongside each other. During the manoeuvre, the Honda CR-V reportedly moved to change lanes or overtake traffic and struck the rear section of the motorcycle.

The impact reportedly threw both the motorcycle operator and Taylor from the bike and into the path of the truck. Taylor was taken to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. The male motorcycle operator survived the collision and was reported to be in serious condition.

Reports also indicate that neither person on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police Appeal for Dashcam Footage

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), through its Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, is continuing its investigation into the fatal collision.

Police have interviewed the drivers of the truck and the Honda CR-V as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities are also appealing to the motorist whose dashcam reportedly captured the collision, footage of which has circulated online, to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Anyone with the relevant footage is being asked to contact the Traffic Enforcement Division at 16 Lower Elletson Road in Kingston.

A Tragic Reminder About Road Safety

Taylor’s death is another heartbreaking reminder of the devastating consequences that can follow a road collision, particularly when vulnerable road users are involved.

Motorcyclists face significant risks when travelling between larger vehicles, where visibility, clearance, and sudden lane changes can become critical factors. Wearing a properly fitted helmet is also an important safety measure that can reduce the risk of severe head injuries.

As the investigation continues, the priority remains establishing exactly what happened and ensuring that anyone with relevant information provides it to the authorities.

The loss of a 17-year-old student is a tragedy for her family, friends, school community, and all those affected by this incident.
