41-year-old Santino Casio as the attacker. in Tory lanez assault

Prison officials have identified a convicted murderer as the suspect in the violent prison stabbing of rapper Tory Lanez.

Lanez, a Canadian artist serving a 10-year sentence for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion, was hospitalized after being stabbed 14 times at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi early Monday.

Authorities named 41-year-old Santino Casio as the attacker. Casio is currently serving a life sentence for a 2004 conviction involving second-degree murder, attempted murder, and the use of a deadly weapon. He has now been placed in restricted housing while the incident is under investigation.

Casio has a long history of violent behavior behind bars. In 2008, he received an additional six-year sentence for assaulting another inmate with a weapon. A decade later, he was sentenced to two more years for possessing a weapon in prison.

The attack on Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, reportedly resulted in critical injuries. According to a post on his official Instagram account, he suffered multiple stab wounds to the back, face, torso, and head, which led to both lungs collapsing. He was placed on a breathing machine but is said to be recovering and in stable condition.

“Despite everything, he remains positive, speaking clearly and giving thanks to God for his survival,” the Instagram update read.

Lanez was convicted in 2023 on three felony firearm charges related to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion as they left a party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood residence. Prior to his incarceration, Lanez achieved seven top 10 albums in the U.S. and is now reportedly working on a new project from prison titled Peterson.

A U.S. resident was fatally shot by Jamaican police this morning after allegedly breaching security at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. This incident marks another fatal police encounter amid a disturbing surge of 80 state killings this year. As video evidence directly contradicts official ‘self-defense’ narratives in other high-profile cases, such as the Granville protest shooting and the killing of Jamar Farquharson, and without a single mandatory body camera in use, public fury over police impunity and the silence of the Prime Minister has reached a breaking point.
