Jamaica needs to stop fighting itself. Dancehall artiste Bounty Killa said what many Jamaicans have been thinking for years — Jamaicans love to fight each other, instead of fighting FOR each other.
In a powerful 40-second clip that has been circulating across the Jamaican diaspora, from Kingston to Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Philadelphia, the Poor People’s Governor called out a painful truth that every Yardie knows.
And he’s right.
This is not about bashing Jamaica. This is about loving Jamaica enough to tell the truth about what is holding us back — political tribalism, politics over policy, and an economy that continues to fail the ordinary Jamaican.
Bounty Killa: Poor People Governor Speaks Out
Bounty Killa, born Rodney Price, has never been afraid to speak for the ghetto, for the poor, for the voiceless. That is why the people call him the Poor People Governor.
When Bounty Killa speaks about Jamaica, people listen — because he is not speaking from a mansion on the hill. He is speaking from the streets, from the same communities that feel the pain of low wages, bad roads, and a healthcare system that leaves too many behind.
His message is simple: If we keep fighting each other, we will never fix Jamaica.
Political Tribalism: PNP vs JLP Is Dividing The Black Majority
Jamaica is a Black majority country. And it’s the Black majority that is caught up in this political tribalism.
PNP vs JLP. Green vs Orange. Garrison vs garrison. Brother against brother over party colours.
The more wealthy minority? Dem very rarely worried bout political tribalism. Dem not out here risking dem life over politics. Dem living comfortable, dem business a run, dem children a go private school, dem can fly out for healthcare when dem need it. Politics don’t touch dem the same way.
It’s WE, the Black majority, the poor and working-class Jamaicans, who pay the price for this division.
Every election, the same cycle repeats. Promises are made. Colours are worn. Communities are divided. And after the votes are counted, the people are left with the same problems. Politics Over Policy Is Killing Jamaica’s Economy
In Jamaica, every decision becomes about politics over policy. Who get the contract, who get the favour, who get fi eat a food. Not what’s best for the people. Not what’s best for the country.
This is why Jamaica continues to struggle with the worst economy in the Caribbean when it comes to the things that actually matter to ordinary people.
We are talented. We are resilient. We are world-famous for our culture, our music, our food, our vibe. But talent can’t pay the bills if the system keeps failing the people.
Until Jamaica puts policy over politics, we will continue to fall behind.
Wages, Education, Roads & Healthcare In Jamaica
Wages In Jamaica
Man a work full-time in Jamaica and still can’t afford rent, light bill, and food in the same month. Minimum wage can’t survive in this Jamaica. Too many Jamaicans are forced to work two and three jobs, or migrate to New York, Philly, Toronto, or London just to survive.
Education In Jamaica
Too many of our Black youth leave school without the skills to get a real job, so dem turn to scamming, gang life, or give up and migrate. Jamaica cannot build a future if we don’t invest in our children’s education.
Roads & Infrastructure In Jamaica
Potholes mash up the whole island. You spend more money fixing your car than you spend on gas. How can a country develop when you can’t even drive from Kingston to St. Thomas without destroying your vehicle? Jamaican infrastructure needs urgent attention.
Healthcare In Jamaica
Go to a public hospital in Jamaica and wait 8 hours. No bed, no medicine, no doctor. If you don’t have private insurance, you’re basically on your own. Access to healthcare in Jamaica remains one of the biggest crises facing the nation.
These are not just statistics. These are real lives. Real mothers. Real fathers. Real youth.
What Jamaicans In New York & Philly Are Saying
From Brooklyn to Queens to the Bronx to Philadelphia, the Jamaican diaspora is having the same conversation.
We left Jamaica for better wages, better schools, better roads, better hospitals — but back home it’s still PNP vs JLP while the Black majority suffers.
At Philly Yard Vibes, we hear it every day: Jamaicans in New York and Philly want to see a Jamaica where policy comes before politics. A Jamaica where your parish doesn’t decide your future. A Jamaica where your party colour doesn’t decide if you get a job, a contract, or healthcare.
The question is no longer who is green or who is orange. The question is: What needs to be fixed FIRST?
Wages? Education? Roads? Or Healthcare?
Jamaica Needs To Stop Fighting Itself – Jamaica Deserves Better Than Politics Over Policy
Bounty Killa’s message is a wake-up call. Jamaica needs to stop fighting itself and start fighting TOGETHER for better wages, better schools, better roads, and healthcare we can actually access.
Imagine what Jamaica could be if we put unity over division. If we put policy over politics. If the Black majority stopped fighting each other and started demanding better for all of us.
Jamaica deserves better than politics over policy.
