Kishane Thompson Ignites Hayward Field with Dominant Prefontaine Classic 100m Win

Jamaican sprint sensation Kishane Thompson announced himself as a major force on the global stage with a commanding victory in the men’s 100m at the prestigious 50th Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meet. Competing at the iconic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, Thompson exploded from the blocks and powered down the track to clock a world-leading and personal best-equaling 9.85 seconds(+0.4 m/s wind). His blistering performance left a world-class field trailing, showcasing both raw speed and impressive composure under the Diamond League spotlight.

Thompson faced formidable competition but established clear daylight early. Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes, who trains alongside Jamaican elites at the Racers Track Club, secured second place with a strong 9.91 seconds. American veteran Trayvon Bromell claimed the third podium spot in 9.94 seconds, while his compatriot Brandon Hicklin followed closely in fourth with 9.98 seconds. Another Jamaican, Akeem Blake, finished fifth in 10.03 seconds. Thompson’s emphatic win at this historic edition of the Prefontaine Classic not only earned him crucial Diamond League points but also sent a resounding message ahead of the upcoming major championships, solidifying his status as a true contender for sprinting’s highest honours.
