THREE NATIONS. FOUR ATHLETES. ABSOLUTE CARIBBEAN DOMINANCE. 🔥
The sprint game has a new hierarchy. At the 2026 NCAA Track & Field Championships, four extraordinary athletes from three different Caribbean nations didn’t just win—they completely took over the short sprints and rewrote the history books at Hayward Field!
Here is how the Caribbean vanguard dominated the collegiate stage:
🇰🇾 CAYMAN ISLANDS | Jaiden Reid shocked the globe in the men’s 200m, blasting a mind-boggling 19.63s to obliterate a 19-year-old collegiate record and set the fastest time in the world this year!

JAMAICA | Shenese Walker executed a flawless masterclass in the women’s 100m, pulling off a massive upset to freeze the clock at 10.88s and claim the crown of fastest woman in the NCAA!
🇻🇬 BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS | Adaejah Hodge put on a clinical display of resilience, bouncing back from a 100m silver to destroy the absolute NCAA 200m record in a staggering 21.68s!
🇯🇲 JAMAICA | Dejanea Oakley capped off a legendary, undefeated season by conquering the women’s 400m in 48.79s—shattering the facility, meet, and collegiate records in the process!

Three islands, four champions, and a collection of records that might stand for decades. The road to global dominance runs directly through the Caribbean!
The sheer depth of regional dominance becomes even clearer when we look past the gold medals. In the women’s 200-meter final, Jamaica’s Gabrielle Matthews, competing for the University of Florida, delivered a spectacular performance of her own. After blazing to a brilliant personal best of 22.22 seconds in the preliminary rounds—the second-fastest 200-meter time in Florida program history—Matthews fought through a fiercely competitive final to secure a spectacular fourth-place finish globally at 22.29 seconds. Her contribution, alongside Oakley and Walker, firmly established that the Jamaican vanguard was not simply winning individual events, but actively occupying multiple lanes on the sport’s biggest collegiate stage.
