Apparently, critical reading and basic analysis are not your strengths. Reading is fundamental—you might want to try it before repeating what amounts to recycled Cold War propaganda. Anyone who has seriously studied Jamaica’s political history would know that.
The fact that you are fixated on defending a political party instead of focusing on the well-being of Jamaica tells us a lot. Many Jamaicans recognize that Michael Manley was the only prime minister who attempted to pursue an independent path for the country and who openly tried to improve conditions for the majority of Jamaicans—the poor and working class, who remain struggling today despite the absence of sanctions.
To be clear, Manley did not “destroy” Jamaica. What actually happened was a coordinated campaign to destabilize his government. Edward Seaga, working alongside external forces, including elements tied to the Central Intelligence Agency, played a major role in that destabilization through political violence and economic pressure. These claims are not speculation—they were detailed by former intelligence insiders like Philip Agee and John Stockwell, both of whom publicly exposed aspects of those operations.
After Seaga took power, Jamaica was pushed toward what many describe as a modern plantation-style economy. The expansion of all-inclusive tourism—without meaningful inclusivity for the wider population—came at the expense of developing other productive sectors. The result was an economy heavily dependent on cheap labor for the tourism industry, while agriculture, manufacturing, and other industries declined.
The continued and even increased brain drain during Seaga’s tenure should also tell you something about how people felt about the country’s direction.
At the end of the day, the real issue is not political party loyalty. Both major parties have long relied on funding and influence from powerful business interests and foreign actors. So if you are still caught up in partisan thinking instead of questioning who truly benefits from the system, then you are missing the bigger picture.
