Rapper Sean Kingston, born Kisean Anderson, was sentenced on Friday to 3.5 years in federal prison and three years of supervised release after a jury found him guilty of orchestrating a wire fraud scheme alongside his mother.
Kingston, 35, and his mother, Janice Turner, 63, were indicted in 2024 after prosecutors alleged the pair used Kingston’s celebrity status to obtain luxury goods through fraudulent wire transfers. Businesses targeted included high-end jewelers, luxury bed manufacturers, exotic car dealerships, and even a microLED TV company.
Turner, who played a central role in the scheme, was sentenced last month to five years in prison and three years of probation. Prosecutors argued that together they defrauded companies of more than $1 million.

During sentencing, Kingston’s attorney, Zeljka Bozanic, asked the court for leniency, citing his 2011 jet ski accident and lack of positive role models. Kingston himself briefly addressed the court, saying: “I’ve learned from my actions.”However, prosecutors pushed back, with Justice Department lawyer Marc Anton labeling him “a thief through and through” and urging for a harsher sentence.
The rapper’s request to self-surrender due to medical appointments was denied, and he was immediately remanded into custody as supporters shouted messages of love. A restitution hearing is scheduled for October 16.
Sean Kingston rose to fame as a teenager when his debut single “Beautiful Girls” topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007. Despite early success and three studio albums, his career has been overshadowed by legal troubles and financial scandals.
