Ackera Nugent too down a talented field

Jamaica’s rising hurdler Ackera Nugent claimed victory in the women’s 100 m hurdles at the 2025 Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, clocking an impressive 12.32 seconds (+0.4 m/s). In a fiercely competitive Diamond League field, she fended off Nigeria’s former world record-holder and world champion Tobi Amusan, who finished second in 12.38, and the USA’s Kendra Harrison and Olympic champion Masai Russell, who both touched the line in 12.50. World champion Danielle Williams, also from Jamaica, secured fifth place with 12.51

This performance not only showcased Nugent’s continued rise—she already holds the Jamaican national record of 12.24 set in Rome 2024—but it also underscored her ability to outpace top-tier rivals like Amusan, Harrison, Russell, and Williams on the world stage Her winning time positions her firmly among the elite hurdlers this season and signals strong momentum as major championships loom later this year.
