Jamaican stars Jaydon Hibbert, Wayne Pinnock, Roje Stona, and Rajindra Campbell have officially switched allegiance to Turkey, lured by financial incentives. This marks a major shift in international track and field and a significant loss for Jamaican athletics.

In a major shakeup within global track and field, top Jamaican athletes Jaydon Hibbert and Wayne Pinnock have joined fellow countrymen Roje Stona and Rajindra Campbell in switching their national allegiance from Jamaica to Turkey. The move has stirred intense debate within the Jamaican athletics community, as it represents the loss of some of the country’s brightest talents.

  • Jaydon Hibbert – Triple jumper and rising star
  • Wayne Pinnock – World Championship silver medalist in the long jump
  • Roje Stona – Discus thrower
  • Rajindra Campbell – Shot put thrower

These athletes are reportedly receiving lucrative benefits from Turkey, including a signing bonus, monthly stipends, and podium bonuses tied to major international events.

A representative of Turkey’s Sports Ministry, Onder Ozbilen, confirmed that Hibbert’s transition is nearly complete and should be finalized within three weeks. Pinnock, who medaled at the 2023 World Championships, the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and the 2025 World Indoors in China, has also completed the paperwork for Turkish citizenship.

This trend underscores growing concerns about athlete migration, financial incentives, and national representation in global sports—raising urgent questions about how Jamaica can retain its elite athletes.
