Jamaica’s sprint scene just got hotter! Bryan Levell scorched the track with a 9.82s personal best at the Raiffeisen Austrian Open

Bryan Levell’s 9.82s Stunner Could Earn Him a Spot on Jamaica’s 4x100m Relay Team for the World Championships

Jamaican sprinting is reaching a fever pitch in 2025, and Bryan Levell has just added serious fuel to the fire. Clocking a jaw-dropping 9.82 seconds (+1.3 m/s wind) at the Raiffeisen Austrian Open in Eisenstadt, Levell delivered one of the year’s most explosive performances — a personal best that puts him among the world’s sprinting elite.

Although Levell didn’t finish in the top ranks in the 100m final at the Jamaican national trials last month, he secured victory in the 200m, locking in his individual ticket to Tokyo in that event. Still, this breakout performance in the 100m may force selectors to reconsider his role in the 4x100m relay team, where his curve-running prowess and raw top-end speed could be decisive.

Jamaica now holds the top three times globally in the men’s 100m this season:

  • Kishane Thompson – 9.75s (World Lead)
  • Bryan Levell – 9.82s
  • Oblique Seville – 9.83s

With the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo fast approaching, the Jamaican men’s sprint squad is looking like the team to beat. Levell’s performance not only strengthens the country’s medal chances but also signals incredible depth — a vital asset in relay strategy.

If Levell is added to the 4x100m squad, expect fireworks. With his proven 200m strength and curve-running capabilities, he may be the X-factor Jamaica needs to chase down that world record pace.

Tokyo, are you ready? Because Jamaica definitely is.
